I am a 72 years old Venezuelan man. Through my 7 decades I have watched many presidential elections in all parts of the world. Many of these nominations include more than a fair share of demagogic offers. I too have experienced what it is like to live under the rule of a demagogue.
All elected demagogues have one thing in common. They court populism and after coming to power have quickly and cynically forgotten what they offered in pursuit of their own selfish aim. People suffer as a result.
Fidel Castro offered the Cuban people CHANGE when it came to triumphant Havana in January 1959. Cuba turned out to be a failed state.
The Chavez legacy is horrendous resulting in Venezuelan suffering such intense privation and hardship that is hard for those people who live in a functioning state to comprehend. Food is scarce, proper access to healthcare is non existent, crime of the cruelest sort is rampant and unchecked. Corruption is everywhere.
With the pending elections in Canada in mind I truly wish the best for Canada and Canadians. Canada is now my second home and I thank the friendly treatment Canadians towards me.
As you consider the coming election. I ask you to think carefully. Firstly please vote. Where I have come from people have given up their lives for the privilege to be able to place their single vote. Secondly I ask you to consider the candidates, their motives, the truthfulness and ability to deliver their promise. After 70 years I have realized that a country gets the government it deserves. You have an important part to play in deciding the future of Canada. Please participate and vote in an informed and wise manner.
